Soft or Hard Silicone?… A “How-To” on Picking the Right Dildo

Many customers are often confused as to which type of silicone they will want for the dildo they purchase. Since almost every Vamp Dildo we carry comes in both a soft and regular silicone option, it can be a particularly difficult decision and one only surpassed by the color option. Should they choose the soft and far more pliable silicone or would they like the more rigid regular silicone offered by Vamp Silicone dildos? Here are a few tips on choosing the right dildo for you.

Tip #1

What size dildo are you purchasing? My rule of thumb for dildo purchasing is, if you are buying a smaller toy (dimensions of less than an inch in diameter and shorter than 5 inches) such as the Pee Wee Sr., Bette, or Jezebel you’ll enjoy these toys in regular silicone. However, if the toy is huge (toys at least 2 1/2 inches in diameter on the shaft and longer than 8 inches) a Carina, Joplin, or Greta these toys may serve you best in soft silicone. Why the difference? Look at it this way; do you want a small and skinny dildo such as the Bette super flexible? Or would you rather have it maintain its form making it easier to work with? I’d always go with the “make it work” option. As for the large dildos taking a Joplin or Carina in hard silicone is similar to being fisted, no give. If you want the fisting feeling then go right ahead, but for those wanting to try large toys as a predecessor to fisting, soft is the way to go. Medium sized dildos (sizes somewhere between small and huge) are often the most confusing for customers to choose from. If this is your case go on to Tip #2.

Tip #2

What is the intended purpose of the dildo? Are you buying it for strap-on play, your own pleasure, or someone else? Strap-on dildos such as the Talulas are some of the most popular selling dildos we have. The most popular selling for strap-on play in the stores are the Talula Lg G2 Soft Silicone (SS) and Talula LG hard silicone. There is a size difference between these two with the G2 SS having a larger head and shaft circumference and again size plays a factor in choosing the softer material, both soft and hard silicone dildos work well in harnesses. If you are purchasing the toy for yourself I’d suggest a harder silicone since you’ll have more control over the toy. The Valentino or Dominique are great in hard silicone and offer more length to pleasure your self with. If buying for someone else, particularly a partner, you’ll probably be somewhat knowledgeable on what he/she likes. Roberto and Vera are great in either SS or Regular silicone and the balls on these toys offer a nice handle to use in order to thrust and pleasure your partner with. If you haven’t quite made up your mind go to Tip #3 and hopefully this will seal the deal.

Tip #3

You’ve listened to the tips, but what do the toys really feel like? We understand that you may have never been to a Tulip Store before or any other store that sells Vamp Silicone Products or Vixen Products. If so, the most realistic comparisons for the toys are the feeling of a relaxed muscle for Soft Silicone and a fully inflated automobile tire for Hard Silicone. As always, Tulip offers a compromise between both silicones, in the form of Vixen dildos. These dildos are both hard and soft at the same time. Created by pouring a hard silicone core and then topped with a soft silicone shell these toys are sure to please the pickiest of you Goldilocks out there.  Try the Bandit or Maverick today.
