Tulip Interviews Local Dildo Company- Vamp Silicone!

Chicago nests many hidden treasures, one of our favorites is local dildo company, Vamp Silicone. Vamp is a group of artists who are advised by sex educators and doctors, to produce the ultimate pleasurable artistic medical grade silicone dildos and plugs. Although Vamp makes products for everyone, many of their designs are focused on mastering strap-on sex.

Throughout the years, every week Vamp Silicone dildo-makers come to Tulip, bringing us jaw-dropping toys. From shimmery black and silver marbling to teal and white splashes, they can make your dream dildo come true. One of the best parts of having Vamp in your hometown? Tulip customers can request custom colors both in-store and online. Vamp created a masterpiece to match our customer’s tool box once! :)

We asked Lucy, Head Dildo-Maker at Vamp, a few questions and requested pictures of some of her favorite creations, Enjoy!

What’s it like, going to work and making dildos?
It’s amazing. On a daily basis I get to give countless people orgasms across the world.

How can you describe the process of dildo-making? Is there a science to it?
Handmade from start to finish- what does that entail?

Ah, take one can of artichoke heart quarters, one cup of mayonnaise, one cup of Parmesan cheese, two chopped cloves of garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Drain artichokes and mix ingredients in a 9×9 inch pan and bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes until golden bubbly.

What are your favorite colors & designs to make?

I love combining rich colors in swirls and splashes. Swirling happens with combining multiple colors, the way the silicone is poured into the mold creates the swirl. A splash is when I take a very small amount of one color, drizzle it where I want in the mold and then add a different color. It comes out looking like a really cool splatter or, splash.

What’s the most challenging part of making a dildo?

Getting it out of the mold. Once they cure, some of these designs can be really difficult to get a grip on with the amount of force needed to separate them from the molds. At the same time though, you have to be incredibly delicate because you don’t want to damage the mold or the dildo. When they finally do come out, there’s an incredibly satisfying POP sound that makes it all worth it (along with getting to see how they come out). Every design has a different popping sound to it since they’re all different shapes and sizes. I really want to get in there with audio recording equipment so I can make a sound piece with all the different pops.

If you could make any dildo in the world, what would it be?

A dildo for David Bowie and Iman. Just kidding… maybe. Actually I would love to create my own design for a dildo and get to make it. I really enjoy the process and daydream of getting to see my own creation out there.

Tell us about the most unique Custom project request you’ve had thus far?

It would have to be a recent request to make our Rocket design, which is a short and wide cone shape, look like a Candy Corn. It’s both hilarious and genius.

Are custom toys popular? Tell us more about some of the custom pieces you’ve made?
They’re pretty popular, I think it’s the fact that the customer also gets to be a part of the process. We had one request a while back that was a cream, dark blue and pastel mint green Gianni. None of us could really imagine it to it’s full fruition nor did we think it would really end up looking very pretty. Oddly enough, it was gorgeous. It reminded me of the beach shores on islands in the Aegean Sea.

Favorite Vamp dildo & why?

The Gianni. I love it’s length, girth and the fact that it doesn’t have balls. It’s a great size for pouring and seeing really beautiful designs come through, and the bend gives it a nuance so it isn’t just a straight up and down dildo.

Favorite dildo you’ve ever made?

It was a Louis the XIV. I used a clear silicone and swirled a dark blue with a metallic silver, so you could see all the rippling inside the dildo (similar to a marble). By being able to see into the dildo, it gave the Louis this really cool three dimensional aspect.
